When we look at language as something tied to nation-states and groups in power, then we miss the important part of language, the part that is deeply tied to our personal identity. As humans, we’re surrounded by language since before we’re born and we’re born into a lineage of languagers: people whose language has matched their lives and experiences, and those of their ancestors. My ancestors live on through my language.
